Mount Rainier is a majestic beacon, glowing bright on clear days and becoming even more amazing at dusk, when the light softens into layers of blue, pink, and gold. It has a way of calling to me—I find myself driving farther and farther just to catch a better view.
This linocut reduction print was inspired by one of those evenings. I returned to the studio the following day to translate that sense of awe into ink and paper. Printed as a seven-layer reduction, this 8 × 10 piece was hand-printed on a Vandercook Universal 4 press in Seattle. Each layer was carved and printed in sequence, slowly revealing the image while permanently altering the block—making this a limited edition by nature of the process.
I hope this print carries the same sense of wonder and quiet love that I felt standing beneath that glowing mountain.
